Sun Diego Charter is currently looking for a full-time Safety and Compliance Supervisor who will be tasked with being a key contact for our drivers on various matters such as maintaining accurate, organized and efficient records of all files as required, and supporting the partnership between departments by being proactive, openly sharing information, and bridging gaps while assuring Sun Diego standards stay exceptionally high. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Although additional duties and related tasks may be assigned, the essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
  • Oversee safety, training, and related compliance matters for Sun Diego Charter, achieving measurable and documented improvement each quarter
  • Ensure company and contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Develop, enact, expand, and enforce safety and compliance programs to ensure they meet the needs of the Company and fulfill all necessary regulatory requirements
  • Lead accident/incident investigations as necessary to compile accurate information, perform detailed analysis to determine the cause, and take appropriate actions to mitigate future risks
  • Plan, develop, and implement training programs for all safety-sensitive positions within the Company, including drivers and the members of management who supervise employees working in a safety-sensitive function, including oversight and facilitation of:
    • Driver accident re-training
    • In-service training for Drivers
  • Behind the Wheel training
  • Ongoing review, interpretation, communication, and implementation of federal, state, and local rules and regulations
  • Ensure that related recordkeeping and reporting requirements are exceeded and timely
  • Prepare and maintain all required manuals, programs, procedures, and standards for Company operation as it relates to safety and compliance
  • Establish operational standards for fleet safety, personal injuries, and DOT compliance, in collaboration with Operations
  • Work with Operations and HR to develop standards regarding the sourcing, hiring, and training of all Company employees who will work in a driver and/or safety-sensitive function
  • Work with Operations and Leadership to create and implement an Incident Management Plan
  • Perform on-board evaluations and trail checks
  • Create a process to ensure the evaluation of all routing for safety and efficiency
  • Travel as frequently as necessary to field locations to appropriately audit, assess, and monitor the execution and effectiveness of all safety and compliance
  • Develop, compile, and distribute detailed, relevant reporting regarding key safety and compliance metrics
  • Function as the internal safety and compliance expert that is a resource for all members of the Company
  • Develop and facilitate monthly safety meetings with clearly defined goals for participants
  • Oversee CHP, DOT, DOD, TSX and School District inspections
  • Create a process for ride-alongs, onsite observations, remedial and upgrade training, and discrete trails
  • Create and implement successful driver discipline processes
  • Maintain and train drivers on Compliance Paperwork, Hours of Service, DVIRs, Bus Checkout Sheets, accident reporting, and the logging of accidents into VMS system
  • Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives and monitor progress to enhance the professional development of staff
  • Collaborate with other managers and staff members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Work with department heads and management to get the best performance from staff and employees
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by:
    • Tracking emerging trends in management
    • Attending educational workshops
    • Reviewing professional publications
    • Establishing personal networks
    • Benchmarking state-of-the-art practices
    • Participating in professional societies
    • Exploring opportunities to add value to the Company
    • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of safety or compliance experience
  • Previous supervisory experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Class C Driver’s License
  • Valid class A or B California Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsement, preferred

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents in English. Ability to write in English routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Mathematical Skills
Demonstrates strong general math skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Performs these operations with units of American currency, Regular and Military time, and Imperial measurements of weight, volume, and distance.

  • Microsoft Office 2007 or Newer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.)
  • iPhone or Android cellular phone and tablet PCs
  • GPS (Samsara, Saucon, Nomad, etc.)
  • Route management (DoubleMap, Nomad, etc.)
  • Ridership tracking (TripShot, TapRide, etc.)
Proficiency:
  • Spreadsheet formatting (add rows/columns, borders, fill color, etc.)
  • Spreadsheet formulas (SUM, IF, VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, conditional formatting, etc.)
Other Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Minimum 5 years U.S driving experience
  • Team member must be at least 25 years of age to satisfy insurance requirements
  • Current medical card
  • Clean DMV H6 Record (less than 30 days old)
    • No DUIs within the last seven years
    • No more than one DMV point or moving violation within the last 3 years
    • No more than one preventable accident in the previous 12 months and no more than two preventable accidents in the previous 36 months
    • No more than one major preventable accident within the previous 36 months
    • Pass a physical exam as required by the Department of Transportation (the place where applicable)
    • This position is designated as requiring a background check due to the nature of the job responsibilities. The Company will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the background check
    • No applicant may have been convicted for any of the disqualifying offenses defined in 49 CFR Part 383.51 and 383.53 of the Federal Motor Carrier Regulations
    • No felony convictions
    • No misdemeanor crimes involving moral turpitude
  • Driving Requirements
    • A valid commercial driver's license and DMV check for driving record is required
  • Pass a drug test as required by the Department of Transportation and Sun Diego Charter.
    • The duties of this position are so fraught with a hazard that any attempt to perform them while in a state of alcohol or drug impairment would pose a threat to coworkers, to the workplace, or to the public at large. Accordingly, this position is deemed a safety-sensitive position. As a result, we require team members operating in this position to submit to random drug testing throughout the course of employment. Moreover, the Company will take appropriate action for refusing to take or failing such test

SCHEDULE:
  • Monday- Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM overtime if needed

SALARY:

  • The salary range that Sun Diego Charter reasonably expects to pay for the position is $65,000-$85,000 yearly and Certification
